Greene County Homemakers in Community Education

Last modified 2009-06-18 13:14

The Greene County Homemakers for Community Education (GCHCE) is comprised of volunteers working together with Ohio State University Extension to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through education, leadership development, and social interaction.

There are three active clubs in Greene County with a total of 27 members. Each club has a representative to the Home Council that coordinates activities at a county level. Meetings of the council are held monthly from September to May. District meetings with Homemakers from other counties are held twice a year. A few members attend the State Homemakers' organization annual meeting each year.

A typical year's program for clubs includes Leader Training Meetings on topics selected by the membership related to nutrition and food preparation, money management and consumerism, health, family life and aging issues, as well as leadership and self-improvement. The lessons are prepared by Extension staff and then presented to representatives from each club who then teach the lesson to other club members.

Members often assist the Extension Educator with educational programs including a variety of Health Fairs throughout the county and each year at the Greene County Fair. They save Box Tops for Education, collect eyeglasses for the Lions' Club, and pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House.

Clubs engage in service projects including providing items for families in local shelters and literacy materials for parents of young children.

Please find below the Greene County Homemakers Calendar of Programs.
